How To Swing The Cameras Across The Canyon

1. Click on a box to tie it to the rope.

2. Use the slider to select a level of force to push the box. This determines how much energy you use when you push the box across the canyon.

3. Click and drag the box back to the desired height, then let go.An object has more potential energy the higher it is above the ground. The farther you pull the box back, the more energy the box has, and the farther it will travel.

Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy

Every object on Earth contains some energy. An object has "potential energy" when it is raised above the ground. When an object is moving, that energy is called "kinetic energy."

An object has more potential energy the higher it is above the ground. So, the higher you lift the box of cargo, the more energy it will have to swing across the canyon.

How Height Affects Potential Energy

However, you can only pull the box of cargo back so far before the rock overhang gets in the way. At this height, the box won’t have enough potential energy to make it across the canyon, so you have to add energy by giving the box a push. Remember, weight matters. The heavier the object the harder you have to push it.

So, make sure you find the right combination of potential and kinetic energy through lifting and pushing to send the box to Ovie on the other side of the canyon.
